Over the years, she had tried numerous therapies and treatments to stem the tide of worsening pain from knee arthritis without much success. Even full knee replacement surgery on her left knee only helped to a degree. Discomfort remained in the replaced knee even well after the expected post surgical healing time.
Using Cold Laser Therapy for Knee Arthritis
When Ms. M first visited us, she was wondering if Cold Laser Therapy might help in reducing the pain in her right knee. And if it might even prevent the need for knee replacement surgery in the future. After finding out some more details, she decided that it was well worth her time and money to give this knee arthritis treatment a try. The upside of avoiding much more invasive and therefore risky surgery was significant. And as she had found out on her other knee, replacement surgery wasn’t a guaranteed full success either.
Several weeks after her treatments, we received a friendly email from Ms. M:
“I had become very despondent after a number of years with extremely painful knee arthritis. One arthroscopic procedure and one complete knee replacement later I continued to deal with one extremely painful arthritic knee that did not require replacing and remained dependent on prescription pain medication in order to function on a very basic level.
Then I read an article in our local paper submitted by Solaj about Cold Laser Therapy. The main point I took from the article was that it would relieve pain and alleviate the need for pain medication. I was willing to try anything that might achieve that goal.
I met with Dr. Melanie Rapoport at Solaj for a consultation. After our discussion there was no question I was going to give the laser therapy a try and Dr. Mel began my treatment immediately. After only two weeks of treatment I could function without any pain medication although there was still some discomfort in the knee. I continued my course of treatment as prescribed by Dr. Mel and at eight weeks was completely pain free and able to function normally and am no longer dependent on medication in order to function.
I would recommend anyone that is suffering with pain to definitely utilize Cold Laser Therapy. It certainly worked for me.”
After the first four treatments, Ms. M noticed much less discomfort in her knee. She could finally sleep throughout the night without being woken by pain. After just two weeks of treatments, she stopped taking pain medication altogether. This was a true milestone for her. After having had to take painkillers on a daily basis and putting up with their unpleasant side effects for years.
As she continued her treatments, Ms. M’s knee arthritis continued to show meaningful improvement. Now she was able to take longer walks with her husband along the beach. And she even started to ride the recumbent bike to help regain the strength in her knee. After 15 treatments over an 8 week period, Ms. M was able to stop her treatments. She had virtually no knee pain while continuing to stay off pain medication. And she was able to become more active than she had been in years.
When Ms. M came back to Solaj two months after her last treatment for a check-up and “refresher” treatment (commonly suggested for those with significant knee arthritis), she continued to have no pain in her knee and she has been able to keep up with her new, increased level of physical activity.
