Brent is a youthful middle aged individual, who likes to stay in shape with athletic activities including weight lifting and running. He had prior success with Cold Laser Therapy at our clinic, resolving epicondylitis pain in both elbows the year before. So when he encountered a nasty case of chronic knee pain (from a condition called iliotibial band syndrome), he came back to our clinic in the hope of resolving this problem, too.
Once at our clinic for the initial assessment for this condition, Brent reported that the he had been running regularly to train for a half marathon, and was strength training several times a week, when the pain started. His pain had by now persisted for several months. When running, he experienced a burning pain on the outside of both his knees. And it would get even worse after a run. He was also experiencing sharp, stabbing pain when going down stairs or when standing up from sitting. He even found it difficult to just straighten his legs while lying in bed. There was significant tenderness to the touch along the outside of Brent’s knees. And fully bending his knees had also become quite painful.

Cold Laser Therapy for Knee Pain
These knee pain symptoms are quite typical for a condition called iliotibial band syndrome. The iliotibial band is a thick band of connective tissue that extends from the outer part of the pelvis, down the lateral thigh and connects just below the outside of the knee. This painful condition occurs when the iliotibial band gets overused and thus inflamed. It’s common in runners, cyclists, hikers, and those who lift weights. And it can become quite debilitating.
Cold Laser Therapy for Iliotibial Band SyndromeAfter Brent’s first Cold Laser Therapy treatment, he already noticed an improvement. He was able to go for a run without pain during or after. After just five treatments, the pain in his left knee was almost completely gone. So he could end treatments on that knee. Since he was left with very mild discomfort in his other knee, he continued with a couple more treatments on that knee. After a total of seven treatments, he was no longer having pain while he ran or walked down the stairs. And his knees were no longer tender to touch. At that point, Brent could end the treatments and get back to his half marathon training.
A little later, Brent sent us a kind note about his experience with Cold Laser Therapy. So others with a similar condition might benefit from it.
I am a man in his mid-40’s with a fairly high activity level and I know I don’t heal like I used to. I was first introduced to Solaj and Dr. Mel’s services in 2014 when I was looking for an alternative approach to elbow tendonitis due to over activity in the gym. Their assessment and treatment with cold laser therapy accelerated the healing without slowing me down. I can definitely say that I am fully healed from the injury.
Given past results, Solaj was top of mind when I recently developed some discomfort around my knees while training for a half-marathon. The injury was assessed and treatment was applied using cold laser therapy while training continued. After finishing treatment, I noted a significant reduction in discomfort when running.
Although the results speak for itself, the overall experience from the Solaj team will keep me coming back. I have recommended and will continue to recommend the service to anyone who may be in need. Thanks for keeping me moving!
