Sprained Ankle

We usually think of ankle sprains as being associated with playing sports, but there are many other ways to twist your ankle. Slipping, stumbling or misstepping may sprain the ankle and result in mild or extreme pain.

An ankle sprain is an injury to one of the ligaments in your ankle joint. These ligaments connect the bones in your ankle and hold them together. Although they are somewhat flexible, a sudden twist or wrong step can overstretch or sometimes tear one or more of the ligaments.

Certain situations can actually make one more prone to an ankle sprain such as running or walking on uneven surfaces, wearing shoes that don’t fit well, wearing high heeled shoes, playing sports that require sudden changes in direction or having a previous ankle sprain.

Common Symptoms

  • Pain in the ankle (mild to severe)
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • May have heard a pop at time of injury
  • Difficulty walking on the ankle (more difficulty with more severe sprain)
  • Limited range of motion

Most people who sustain an ankle sprain may have it x-rayed to ensure no bones are broken. However, once a fracture is ruled out, they don’t get much treatment and think the injury will fully resolve on it’s own over time. While that may be true for some mild ankle sprains, most of these injuries leave people with lingering symptoms for months or even years, such as pain and limited ankle mobility, and possibly lead to injuries in other areas of the body including the knee, hip or low back.

Ankle sprains are very treatable injuries that respond well to various treatments, particularly Chiropractic, Active Release Techniques and cold laser therapy. These therapies can drastically reduce healing time, while getting rid of the pain and swelling. The cold laser therapy, in particular, can heal the damaged ligament at a cellular level and bring it back to it’s normal integrity.

Cold Laser Therapy for Sprained Ankles

Cold Laser Therapy Sprained Ankle Treatment: Step 1

Cold Laser Therapy Sprained Ankle Treatment: Step 2

Cold Laser Therapy Sprained Ankle Treatment: Step 3

Regenerates Muscle Tissue:
Transfers light energy to the affected cells of muscle, regenerating and strengthening damaged muscle tissue to prevent future injury.

Decreases Inflammation:
Speeds up the body's natural inflammation phase and induces the repair phase of healing.

Removes Internal Scar Tissue:
Inhibits and removes Internal Scar Tissue that naturally forms after an injury and can cause discomfort and a delay in healing.

Nerve Regeneration:
Helps damaged nerves to recover by growing the neural network and repairing vital insulation around the nerve.

Stimulates Blood Flow:
Increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients required for healing of the affected cells.
